Pre-flight checklist

CONTROL SURFACES - Check the aircraft's main rotor as well as the tail and the tail rotor for any damages.
SKIDS/LANDING GEAR - Check the aircraft's skids or landing gear for any damages.
WINDSHIELD COVERS - Remove the covers off the aircraft's windshields.
FUSELAGE - Check the aircraft's body for any damages.

Note: Any damages may refer to dents, scrapes, cracks, etc;


Flight controls

COLLECTIVE LEVER - This lever is on the left side of the pilot's seat and it is used to raise the helicopter up, as well as descend it down.
THROTTLE - A small twist-able grip located at the end of the collective. The throttle is connected directly to the collective positioning, therefore, manual changes should be performed only when necessary. Increase the throttle when ascending, and decrease it when descending.
CYCLIC - This is the joystick-like "stick" located directly in front of the pilot’s seat. It is a very sensitive tool that allows you to tilt the aircraft forward and backward (pitch), as well as left and right (roll).
ANTI-TORQUE PEDALS - There are two pedals on the floor, they're used to control the tail rotor.


Take-off checklist

SEATBELT - ON
INTERCOM - CONNECTED AND ON
HYD PRESSURE - 20 PSI
FIRE TEST - ON - Wait for an alarm sound to be heard and then switch to NORM.
WARNING LIGHTS - TEST - Once the entire dashboard lights up, set to BRT.
BATTERY - TEST - All lights for the battery test should light up in green.

If BATTERY CHECK CHARGE is OK, proceed with the next step below:

ATC communications

Explain the various aspects of ATC communications by providing them with examples of the various situations (takeoff, landing, taxiing, zone transitioning)

Sandy Shores Traffic, N101BA taking off via Runway 25 to the West. Climbing 2000ft initially.
Sandy Shores Traffic, N101BA descending towards Sandy's Airfield from 1000 feet and starting an approach for runway 07 for landing.

Speeds

TAXI - You must maintain no more than 30mph while taxiing.
CLIMB - You must maintain 80mph while climbing.
DESCENT - You must maintain 65mph during descent.



Descending

COLLECTIVE + THROTTLE - ((hold S)) bring the COLLECTIVE in the opposite direction in order to begin the descent adjust the throttle in order to maintain a descent at a speed of 65mph.

Lesson 2- Information

Taxiing

The taxiing is always performed at an altitude of no more than 150 feet. The first step is to taxi to the runway where the exercise will be explained and then demonstrated:

Taxiing exercise includes:
• Position on Runway 22 and taxi it at full length before turning around and taxiing it back to the point of origin.
• Taxi forward all the way and then start taxiing in reverse until you reach the intersection which is approximately halfway back.
• Taxi sideways all the way and then back to the intersection.



Hovering

Hovering exercise includes:
• The hovering exercise only requires the student to pick a tile at the airfield and then hover above it steady for one minute straight without touching the ground and without leaving the boundaries of the chosen tile.
•The student then needs to orbit around the tree in the intersection, facing it while doing so.



Circuits

The following exercise is to be performed:
• Radio call to ATC.
Sandy Shores traffic. CALL_SIGN taking off runway 22, climbing to 500 feet, left-hand circuit for Runway 22.


• The instructor demonstrates the circuit exercise before allowing the student to do it. The pilot must follow the dirt road and then fly alongside the prison but never over it, then head back to Runway 22 but do not cross Runway 25.


Autorotations

The following exercise is to be performed with the helicopter SEASPARROW ((SEASPARROW2)):
• Explain to the student what the autorotations are.
•Demonstrate the autorotations to the student. Take off and climb above 600 feet and head towards the desired runway while keeping a constant speed of 80MPH before reaching the runway, drop the collective ((press Y to turn off the engine)) and then use the airspeed to slide towards the runway, executing a flare before reaching the ground so you can slow down and reduce the speed ((press NUMPAD 5 to perform a flare. You can press Y to start the engine and W to keep or gain altitude when needed. ))*

Repeat the above as many times as needed until a satisfactory result is achieved.

• Begin with a take-off and proceed to follow the red route as shown on the map and maintain an altitude of about 2000 feet throughout the flight to La Puerta, make sure that they call in over the radio upon reaching the radio call location that's shown on the map in order to call in the transition into LS airspace. Land at La Puerta.
• Example for radio call:
Sandy Shores traffic. CALL_SIGN over Tongva Mountains/Reservoir/County Jail, 2000 feet, entering LS airspace, descending to 500 feet for La Puerta approach.


• Time to take off, do it and climb up to 2000 feet and proceed to follow the green route as shown on the map, upon reaching the radio call marker on the map make sure that your student calls in over the radio the transition from one airspace to another.
• Example for radio call:
LS traffic. CALL_SIGN over Chumash, 1500 feet, entering Sandy Shores airspace, descending to 500 feet for Sandy approach.



Landing away from airports/helipads - Landing in confined spaces

[b• In this lesson we are focusing on landing away from airports in areas where no helipads are present, as well as places with limited space.
• As part of this lesson, you must discuss the dangers of dynamic rollover and settling with power.[/b]

A landing zone has to be free of:
•Oncoming traffic.*
• Any civilians who are not involved in the rescue operation.
• Fire or fire-related smoke.
• Large rocks, holes, and large openings, etc;
• Power lines and other standing objects within an area of 30 x 30 meters (100 x 100 feet).


A landing zone is preferred to be marked with flares that indicate a collision-free zone for the aircraft where nothing presents a danger of striking the aircraft, or nothing may prove to be an obstacle.

Dynamic rollover:
You have a series of conditions that combine to make a dangerous situation. 3 key elements make up this hazardous condition. They are: A pivot point, a rolling moment, and weight equal to thrust at some time during the maneuver. What actually happens is that the helicopter, which is still on the ground, will start to roll over on its side using one skid, or wheel, as the pivot point.

Once the aircraft starts to roll, a downward collective movement is the only thing that will stop the forces in action from flipping the aircraft on its side. By reducing the collective, the thrust-to-weight ratio decreases, which allows the aircraft to settle back down in a level attitude. If this is done on sideward sloping terrain, a collective reduction performed too quickly can cause the aircraft to roll over on the other side, down the slope. Care must be exercised when performing slope landings, but dynamic rollover can occur on the flattest of surfaces if the pilot becomes complacent.


Settling with power
Settling with power can be a dangerous condition that any pilot may face, and if he or she is not on their toes, it may cause a serious uncontrollable situation. Settling with power is basically when the helicopter settles into the rotor wash produced by its own main rotor system. It requires 3 key elements to occur, and these conditions should be avoided in combination with one another.
These are: A near-zero airspeed, up to 100% power applied, and a better than 300-foot-per-minute rate of descent. Once you have all of these situations in occurrence, the aircraft will settle in its own downwash from the rotor system. The only way to recover is to gain forward airspeed and allow the rotor system to fly into "Clean air". Once the rotor system is clear of the rotor wash, it will become efficient again, and then settling with power conditions will cease to exist.
This can become a real problem at an out-of-ground effect hover (Above 100 feet from the ground) and during landings.


• Prior to landing survey the landing area first, orbit around the landing location to recognize the area, and then perform a landing. Make sure to be always aware of the location of the tail rotor and make sure to always keep it far from pedestrian movement.

Rotorcraft - Exam for students who have completed all three lessons successfully.

From lesson 1

• Hovering in one position above a tile on the airfield for 60 seconds.
• Hovering/orbiting around the tree.
• 1x Circuit where the student must follow the dirt road and then fly alongside the prison but never over it, then head back to Runway 22 but do not cross Runway 25.


From lesson 3

• Fly to Paleto Cove through the Cassidy Creek canyon.
• Landing at Paleto Cove's largest island and by the pier as per the provided photos in ⁠lesson 3
